Garage Door Repair Services
Our garage door services fall into two main groups: installation and repair.
Garage doors come in a number of different styles. We’re not referring here to design or aesthetic styles — which are endless — but to the ways in which doors open and close. You can control most of these types with a remote, opening or closing them with the push of a button.
Sectional garage doors, which are quite popular, consist of a series of horizontal panels connected with hinges. When this type of door opens, it retracts upwards and the panels successively fold until they eventually lie parallel to your garage roof. Closing does the opposite. Roll-up garage doors are more common in commercial than in residential buildings. They are steel doors divided into 2-or-3-inch-thick horizontal sections. These coil up when you open and raise the door.
Another type of door consists of a set of vertical sections. When you open the door, these sections slide away to the side of your garage opening and hug one of your garage’s interior walls. They are especially useful for small garages without much headroom. Yet another type of garage door looks like a set of side-hinged large double doors. These connect to the sides of your garage and open and close just as ordinary double doors do.
Then, there are tilt-up canopy doors. These tilt upward and lie parallel to your garage roof when open, just like sectional doors do. However, unlike sectional doors, these doors come in one solid piece. This type of door, therefore, juts out forward from your garage roof when open. Tilt-up doors also come in a retractable version. We recommend these doors for garages. They are a bit larger and have more headroom, as they require some extra scaffolding equipment to enable retraction.
BDK Door Company can install any of these types of doors for you, matching them with the size and style of your garage.
Moving on to repair, here are some signs that it’s time to call in a professional for garage door repair services.
- Door is slow to open or close
- It jerks while closing
- Door comes off of its track for any reason
- Garage door opener doesn’t work
- You have a broken, bent, or damaged door
Significant damage is an obvious sign that it’s time for repairs, though if the damage is especially serious, it may be better to just replace your door outright. Malfunctioning garage door openers are also a rather obvious signal that it’s time to call in the repairman. The logic board in the opener may have malfunctioned, or perhaps it has stripped nylon gears. These are both technical issues requiring substantial skills to repair.
If your door jerks suddenly when you open or close it or if it goes off of its track, any of a few different things might be behind the problem. Depending on the type of door you have, it might have misaligned tracks. Alternatively, the rollers could have worn out or the lift cables might have snapped. If you have an unbalanced door, this is an especially serious problem. If you don’t repair it soon, it could cause one spring on your door to wear out faster than the other. This, in turn, could cause the door’s mechanism to fail. It’s best to avoid this and call for professional help.
